Pay Me in Tubmas (2024)

"Pay Me in Tubmans" addresses the campaign to feature Harriet Tubman on U.S. currency. The U.S. Treasury confirmed plans to feature Tubman on the $20 in 2030, yet her absence highlights the irony of Andrew Jackson's legacy, marked by racism and financial misdeeds. This artwork critiques the erasure of Black Americans' contributions to freedom and underscores the importance of recognizing their roles in shaping history. Additionally, it symbolizes the ongoing struggle for Black wealth and highlights the wealth gap, urging viewers to reconsider narratives around race, history, and economic equity. Through this piece, I invite contemplation on how we can rectify historical injustices and celebrate Black achievements, envisioning a more inclusive future.
